Port of Felixstowe Case Study:
Floodlighting & Communication Towers

The Port of Felixstowe is the largest container port in the UK and one of the largest in Europe. It was the first facility of its type in Britain.

In total, the port handles over 3.4 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU’’s) per year, with over 40% of the UK’’s container trade passing through its 3,773 metre long quayside.

The best-placed port in Britain, and with storage capacity of 118,000 TEU’’s, Felixstowe’’s unique position on the East Coast ensures it is well placed to process large volumes of container traffic from ports in the range from Hamburg to Le Havre.

Products & Services Provided

Given the amount TEU’’s passing through the Port of Felixstowe at all hours of the day and night, it’s no surprise the facility’’s area lighting and heavy duty floodlighting requirements are immense.

In this context, Towermaster have been supplying lighting structures to the port for over 40 years. In total, over 280 floodlighting and communication towers have been installed – with our 31 metre ‘’R’’ Series tower being the most frequently used option.

The towers have proved to be the ideal solution to the harsh environment and operating conditions. With on-going development of the port due in 2012, Towermaster continue to offer their area lighting solutions and support services to the Port of Felixstowe.
